What Is a Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage works the deeper layers of muscle and the surrounding fascia using slow, deliberate strokes and firm pressure — often applied with the therapist's forearms, elbows, or thumbs. Unlike Swedish massage which travels broadly across the body for relaxation, deep tissue zooms in on specific problem areas like the lower back, shoulders, glutes, IT bands, or neck. The pressure can feel intense in moments, but it is always within your tolerance and produces a marked release of long-held tension by the end of the session.
